About Us

La Serna High School, located in a scenic residential area in Whittier known as Friendly Hills, has been serving students and their families since 1961. The La Serna High School community has always been built on the foundation of relationships that are developed amongst staff, students and parents. The continuity of the staff is a byproduct of a “culture of camaraderie” that is a unique characteristic of LSHS. This collaborative spirit is often the first and most lasting impression on visitors and newcomers. Every day, students, faculty, and staff earnestly encourage teamwork through numerous mentor, volunteer, and leadership opportunities. The team at La Serna believes firmly in each individual’s ability to contribute to the school as a community. LSHS has grown into a strong interdependent and thriving community that takes great pride in supporting all students.

Our strong school-community coupled with our school-wide commitment to doing “Whatever it Takes,” to ensure success for all students makes us truly unique. La Serna teachers believe that they can make a difference in a student’s life, and they work selflessly to demonstrate this. As a Professional Learning Community, the staff thinks “outside the box” to develop programs to support all students.

The school is supported by outstanding parent involvement. The two most significant parent organizations include the PTSA, which serves as a student advocacy group on campus and assists with providing educational opportunities for parents and students, and the Friends of La Serna, which is the main parental fundraising organization. The Friends provide additional funding to assist in covering the cost of curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and athletic ventures on our campus.
