Field Trips

Los Angeles offers a wealth of opportunities for film and media students to engage in enriching field trips that can enhance their education and provide valuable insights into the industry. Over the three year program, we strive to take our FMA kids to many of the places below. 

 
Studio Tours: These studio tours offer behind-the-scenes looks at sets, soundstages, props, and production facilities.

Museum Exhibits:

  • The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures: provides an immersive experience showcasing the history and art of filmmaking. Students can explore exhibits featuring iconic movie props, costumes, and memorabilia.

  • MOCA & Broad Art Museums: students explore diverse forms of visual expression, gain inspiration from contemporary art movements, and expand their understanding of storytelling through different mediums.

  • Grammy Museum: students gain insight into the intersection of music and visual storytelling, explore the creative process behind music videos and documentaries, and understand the role of soundtracks in enhancing cinematic experiences.

  • Riverside Art Museum: students immerse themselves in diverse artistic perspectives, gather inspiration for visual storytelling techniques, and explore the potential for interdisciplinary collaborations between the visual arts and film.

  • Museum of Tolerance: students deepen their understanding of social issues, explore diverse narratives of human experiences, and gain insight into how storytelling can be used as a tool for empathy and social change.

 
Post-Production Facilities:
  • Fotokem: allows students to observe the editing, sound mixing, color grading, and visual effects processes involved in post-production.
 
Film Archives and Libraries:
  • UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Academy Film Archive: house extensive collections of films, scripts, photographs, and other archival materials. Students can arrange guided tours or research visits to explore these resources.

Special Effects Studios:
  • Legacy Effects, Industrial Light & Magic, and Stan Winston Studio. Students can tour these facilities to learn about practical effects, animatronics, and digital effects used in filmmaking.
 
College Tours: 
  • Rio Hondo, Fullerton College, CSUF, CSULB and Chapman School of Dodge:
 students explore diverse program offerings, cutting-edge facilities, and networking opportunities, preparing them for successful careers in the dynamic field of media production.
 
Team Bonding: 
  • OC Ropes Course: students are given the opportunity to foster teamwork, enhance communication skills, and experience hands-on problem-solving exercises, which are invaluable in collaborative film production environments.
