La Serna Celebrates College-Bound Students

As graduation day approaches, La Serna High School’s college-bound seniors celebrated the end of their K-12 education journeys with festive events observing College Signing Day.

College Signing Day is a national celebration of all high school seniors, especially those from low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation college-going backgrounds, who have committed to pursuing higher education — whether at a community college, a four-year university or a professional training program, or by joining the military.

On May 1, La Serna took a bus full of seniors to attend UCLA’s National Signing Day, hosted by former first lady Michelle Obama. The high-energy celebration featured celebrities, athletes and other performers, all of whom attended to recognize students’ academic achievements and to offer encouragement and guidance on how to make the most of their future educational opportunities.

At the La Serna campus, students celebrated Acceptance Day on May 2 by wearing college garb, filling out college pennants and receiving balloons in the color of their future school.
