Attendance

ABSENCE POLICY

 Absences must be cleared within 3 days of the absence.  To clear an absence, you can: 

1. Email the Attendance Office - [email protected];
2. Use the Clear an Absence button on our website;
3. Call the Attendance Office and leave a detailed voicemail, if there is no answer;
4. Send a note with your student upon their return to school.

Absences not cleared within the 3 days can only be cleared by attending a Saturday School.  Saturday School will clear either a full day absence or up to six (6) period absences.

• Students absent more than 3 consecutive days will need a doctor’s note to clear anything after the 3rd day for an illness.
• Students who exceed 10 parent-cleared illness absences without a doctor’s note will be cleared as Personal. 
• Students absent for a personal reason will be cleared as Personal and only for a maximum of 3 consecutive days. Any additional days are posted as truant and must be cleared by attending a Saturday School for each additional day.

 NOTE:  Teachers are not required to allow missed work and/or tests to be made up for Personal Absences.

LA SERNA HIGH SCHOOL - SATURDAY SCHOOL 

Saturday School hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

We encourage students to arrive by 7:55 a.m.

This is a great opportunity for students to:

1.  Make-up truant days or accumulated period cuts.
2.  Make-up missed assignments/test if arrangements are made with their teacher.
3.  Clear any full day unexcused absences so that the student may attend school dances and activities. 

RULES/INSTRUCTIONS

• The student is responsible for coming prepared with learning materials such as books, chrome book and charger.
• Cell phones must be on vibrate or turned off at all times.  Cell phones may be confiscated if heard or seen.
  • • First offense: parent is required to pick-up phone
    • Second offense: phone will be kept until the following school day.
• Students must attend for the entire 4 hours in order to receive credit.
• Bathroom breaks, are for the sole purpose of using the restroom.  Students may not leave campus, loiter, roam the campus or pick up ordered food at the gate.
• Students who fail to follow instructions will be removed from Saturday School and no credit will be issued for the time served.  A referral will be turned into the Dean.
• Late arrivals will be turned away (at teacher’s discretion).

FAILURE TO ATTEND SATURDAY SCHOOL MAY RESULT IN:

• Loss of off-campus lunch privileges.
• A change to your class citizenship, which may include the assignment of a tutorial class and/or detention.
• Unable to attend dances at La Serna or any other school.
