FAFSA & Dream Act Application

Beware of similar websites that charge for this service! There is no financial cost to complete and submit the FAFSA. It is a FREE application

FILING PERIOD: October 1- March 2

Students with social security numbers:

Step 1: Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov and click on “Start Here”

Step 2: Click “I am the Student” then type in your FSA ID Username and Password

• Don’t have an FSA ID? Click on  “Create One”

Step 3: Complete FAFSA application

Step 4: Sign and submit your application with your FSA ID (See below on how to create an FSA ID)

Step 5: You will receive confirmation that your application has been received. Be sure to check your email and save it for future reference

Step 6: Create an account at www.mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov to track the progress of your Cal Grant eligibility

Step 7: Men aged 18-25 must register for selective service. Register Online: www.sss.gov/Home/Registration

Students who DON’T have an SSN or who have an SSN through DACA should NOT fill out FAFSA

Step 1:  The Dream Act Application is completed online. Visit www.dream.csac.ca.gov 

Step 2: Create an account at www.mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov

Step 3: Men aged 18-25 must register for Selective Service to be eligible for financial aid. Online registration: www.sss.gov/Home/Registration

• If you do not have a social security number, or if you are an immigrant male (documented or undocumented) age 18-25, please complete the registration. You must print, sign/ date, and mail your forms

	FAFSA: Your social security number or Alien Registration Number (if applicable)
	Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a citizen)
	Your 2021 Federal Income Tax Return (if applicable) IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040 EZ
	Parents required information Birthdate and social security number (if applicable) Marital status: date of marriage or divorce (month and year) Date moved to California
	Your parents 2021 Federal Income Tax Return, W-2s, and other records of money earned Veteran benefit records Child support received Workers Compensation
	Current bank statements
	Current business records if they are a business owner and investment mortgage information, stock, bond, and other investment records
	Your driver’s license information (if applicable)

Creating Your FSA ID

FSA IDs are used to apply for Federal Finacial Aid via FAFSA. Any student completing the FAFSA should create an FSA ID. Create your FSA ID by visiting fsaid.edu.gov.*

• Full Legal Name (as printed on your Social Security Card)
• Social Security Number
• Professional Email Address (NOT your student.wuhsd.org email)
• Mailing Address
• Contact Phone Number

Students AND Parents MUST create their own FSA IDs. If Parents don’t have a social security number they won’t need to create an FSA ID and will need to sign a printout of the Signature Page from FAFSA.

*Note: Please save your FSA ID in a safe, accessible place (i.e.with your or your parent’s taxes). Your FSA ID will be used as you reapply for Financial Aid via FAFSA every year.

• Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov The FAFSA is used to calculate your “expected family contribution” or EFC, a measure of your family’s annual ability to pay for college.
• A lower EFC makes you eligible to receive more need-based financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant.
• Financial Need = Cost of Attendance – EFC
• Students with a zero EFC (mostly students with family income less than $30,000) have full financial need and qualify for even more financial aid to help pay for school.

Dream Act Information:

The California Student Aid Commission released of the statewide California Dream Act Application. Under Assembly Bills 130 (AB 130) and AB 131, AB 540 eligible students attending college in California may apply for and receive student financial aid from both publicly and privately funded sources. Students can complete the Dream Act Application online here.
